The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

WRITE A SEQUEL!! WRITE A SEQUEL!!
  • Oh, the steamy spray, That is best part of my day, Bubbling, Gurgling, Boiling, The hot tub is where I like to stay! Oh, after a really hard swim, I hear those jets calling me in, Swirling, Whirling, Twirling, Jump right in and let the water spin! Oh, when your muscles really ache, The jacuzzi is where you need to bake, Roasting, Poaching, Toasting, Trust me! It's really great! Swimmy
  • Oh no, I don't want to go in there! There is something in the air! Stinking, Reeking, Rotting, It might just be a monster's lair! Oh no, what was that? It looks like it came out of my cat! Blobbing, Spewing, Globbing, Could it be a dead rat? Oh no, I am stuck to the locker room floor! Help! I have to get to the door! Sticking, Skidding, Slipping, Eeeeeek! I can't take it anymore! Cheers Swimmy!! That one was good!! I love the hot tub afterwards...only problem is the gym where I swim now doesn't have one!! Makes me mad, so i just settle for my tub at home....but it's just not the same without the jets! ~Kyra

newmasterswimmer- it's ten points for a moving target such as a swimmer My bad! I was thinking it was 6 points (for a touchdown). I also want to say that I like your signature tjburk! keep it up and I'll make you swim the fishes How about the following slight modification: "keep it up and I'll make you food for the fishes"? newmastersswimmer p.s. Seagurl, I couldn't help but notice that you never replied to my reply to your thread titled "elbows"...Wassup seagurl??

Inspired by Swimmy's verse's and everyone else's thoughts, I was moved to write my own little poem: Ode to Master’s Swimming By J.B. Barr Ah, to swim at 5:30 What a thing that we do It happens so early There’s no time to poo I rush to my workout ‘Fore the masses are moving With eyes barely open My limbs begin grooving We wear skimpy Speedos Barely covering our jewels My lane mates don’t mind We all look like fools Whilst a true black line guides me My mind unawares In my silent retreat I can lose all my cares I move back and forth Smoothly through each repeat We’ll all be great friends But don’t touch my feet! As I glide through the water It feels oh so cool Heart and lungs are the engines Hands and feet are the tools Some do it for fitness Some prefer competition Better health and well being Are the true swimmer’s mission The workout’s like scripture The coach like a pastor God please hold off aging So I still might get faster!
