(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?
Seagurl, your poems are vey nice!
Glad you like to rhyme!
Others read our thread,
But they keep their ideas in their heads!
Anyone else out there?
Any words of wisdom to spare?
Swimmy :)
The fire inside
The drive within
The feel of cold water
Against your bare skin.
Determined to make it
Strive for the top
You know you can do it
Just don't ever stop.
Keep reaching up high
To the stars you can go
But just how high
Only you can know.
The controller of fate
The keeper of destiny
You make your own gate
And you hold the key.

Now that that's out of my system...something a bit lighter. :)
Sitting here in
This great hall
So many people
160 in all.
Third row from the back
You can't see my face
To miss out on population control
Oh what a waste!
But as you continue
I begin to seep
Your voice is so boring
I'm falling alsleep!
I pull my hat down
And relax in my chair
10 minutes is all
I know you won't care!

I've managed to stay awake for the whole hour long class for about the last week and a half! Quite an accomplishment in my book. And yes, the class can really be that boring sometimes!!:D

p.s. Thank you for the compliments about my poems!! Can you see my ego growing?! (j/k):p
Oh, my very special place,
Where I love to spend my day!
Diving, Soaring, Floating,
My lap lane is where I like to play!
Oh, I do a little of this and a little of that,
Free, ***, or Back,
Fluttering, Frogging, Dolphinning,
Alas, my Fly is very, very sad!
Oh, I swim back and forth next to the rope,
Sometimes I hit it! Ouch! What a dope!
Smacking, Bopping, Whacking,
You don't do that, I hope!
Swimmy : )
YAY SWIMMY!! That was wonderful! I love swimming in my favorite lane...and I hit that lane line all the time. I can't do a very straight backstroke sometimes;) !

HI
Just curious... which of my "Odes" does everyone like the best?
Ode to Swimming
II The Flip Side~ Swim Rage
III The Hot Tub
IV The Locker Room Floor
V Open Water
VI The Swim Bag
VII Hot and Cold
VIII Swim Gear
IX My Lap Lane
My friends are leaning toward IV, but V is my personal favorite.
Happy Swimming, everyone!
Swimmy : )
I liked them all a lot!!....but the one about the locker room floor and the one about the swim bag stand out in my mind the most b/c they were both very funny and because we can all relate to those situations. As far as my poems go, I really only wrote one that I felt really reached inside of me and allowed me to express my true feelings about swimming....that was "Ode to Water"....I liked Seagurl's poem titled "Friend of the Water" ...or something similar?? b/c it reminded me of my poem (similar theme)....unfortunately after that one creative exertion I had, I was kinda done....I wrote the other poems for fun though (and had a lot of fun writing them......to honor the other poets here for the most part ...or just to get a laugh)....I am AMAZED at how Swimmy and Seagurl (and Fisgrrl too for that matter) have been able to pump out so many really good poems! You all have a natural knack for it.....I think that when you all are done, y'all should make a book of poetry about swimming with a big chapter on Swimmy's Poems (by then we may have reached Ode to swimming part XXIV or so)....and another big chapter for Seagurl's poems..(and a chapter on fisgrrl's songs and raps)...I would be happy to just have my one "Ode to Water" in there somewhere.
