(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?

The warmth of love upon my heart…
Gliding along from the very start….
The feel of water gives me grace
And new endeavors I shall embrace….
But love turned cold upon my heart
For now I’m eaten by the shark
Yet, never to return to waters edge
As if I jumped from top the ledge…..
And as I plunge way below…..the water I miss
Will never glow…..
Escaping this world
To a land of your own
Gliding deep below
Being completely unknown
Tiny bubbles be-friend you
As you glide right on by
Sliding and Silky
Beneath the blue sky (or flouresent lights):D
Under the water
You don't have to pretend
Just you and the water
Just you and your friend

VIVA LA POETRY!!
Oh no, the water is much too hot!
I feel like a lobster in a pot!
Steaming, Cooking, Stewing,
Is anyone comfortable? I am NOT!
Oh no,it is definitely not nice!
Mr. Lifeguard, please throw in some ice!
Gasping, Panting, Suffocating,
Cool brisk water is what I like!
Oh no, I have to get out!
I am off the to locker room to shout!
Growling, Scowling, Howling,
It is like the Arctic in here! What's that about?

Oh, the swim gear I carry here and there,
Suits, towels, caps and things for my hair,
Toting, Lugging, Towing,
So much stuff! It is hard to bear!
Oh, the goggles, paddles and more all in a stack,
Pushed in really tight and then thrown on my back,
Sagging, Aching, Dragging,
Carrying it all takes a special knack!
Oh, I have to bring my lotions, eardrops and fins along,
Lucky swimming makes me very strong,
Hoisting, Lifting, Heaving,
Hope my arms don't get too long!
Swimmy :)
