I have just got "back into it" after 11 years. back to *** can you do a "flip" turn to ***? I grew up with the touch and flip and in high school backstroke changed to the flip. Any input?
Thanks
I think what everyone said is correct, but the answer to your question still might not be clear.
You cannot flip unto your stomach in the back to *** transition UNTIL your hand touches the wall. Once your hand touches you can do anything you want until your feet leave the wall. Then you must be toward your stomach.
So, basically, the IM back to *** transition is the same as it was previous to the "new" backstroke turn rule.
I reach back with my right hand, touch the wall, bring my feet up,twist, have my feet touch the wall (right one lower, left on higher). push wiht my legs & go.
I've noticed that Michael Phelps reachs back, then brings the same side foot to the wall. When I try this, I don't flow through the turn. I usually have ot stop & adjust my alignment. If I reach with my right hand, then my left foot is the one sort of on top when my feet touch. Then I roll onto my left side. Phelps would roll onto his left side also but facing the opposite direction as I do. I think that we flip in opposite directions. If anyone can visualize this, can they tell me if my turn is legal? I've never been told it wasn' t nor disqualified.
Also, when I'm finished with my turn, my left hand is in front of me. I push my right hand into streamline. Whne I've tried to flip like Phelps, my left hand is at my sidenear my hips.
