I'm not overly fond of being lumped into a category with the nameless one but if that's the opinion, I'll take my lumps.
However, please do check your facts. You'll find examples of coaches pandering to their own athletes in the Olympics. It's clearly not preposterous and actually rather well known. Basketball is certainly the prime example - check out the '76 team.
