How about those USA Woman who just smashed the longest standing WR by 2.05 seconds for the Gold Medal. The old record was set by the East Germans on 18 Aug. 1987 at their Olympic trials. I am so proud of these USA Swimmers.....Look up the splits...they are off the chart! And....my great friend Les Vollmer's daughter Dana swam in the third slot. This was one of the most beautiful swims I have ever watched! Natalie Coughlin lead it off to one heck of a start....and Kaitlin Sandeno and Carly Piper had GREAT SWIMS AS WELL...ALL UNDER 2:00! USA....USA....USA....

Agreed Tom and I'm especially impressed with Natalie Coughlin's lead off leg and Kaitlin Sandeno coming back from her 200 fly to anchor. Today's NYT has an article on Natalie that says she planned to swim this relay last year at Worlds and that they figured the US would break the record then. Great to see that she planned her Olympic program around this relay and gave up some individual gold to get relay gold and a world record. Also her splits were very impressive. She told her teammates that she was going out slow and not to worry and that's exactly what she did. As you no doubt noticed her 200 free would have won gold in the individual event.

Glad that the old german record went. Katlin Sandeno medaled 3 times. And only Couglin and Amanda Beard medaled 5 and 3 for the women. On another sport US diving did the worst in 92 years. A friend of mine is saying that the x-games are taking people away from more traditonal sports like swimming or diving. But it seems that maybe it effects diving more.
