Hello forum.
Last monday, a friend of mine, a swimmer who writes on the italian forum, has been squalified for 6 month after a doping control.
Does there in USA exist doping control on master atlethe?
He didn't use epo, he just have a joint after dinner.
What do you think about that?
The post about this topic has been censured in Itlay.
Thank you.
Emmett asked for chapter and verse, so here it is:
FINA Constitution:
C 7.2 The constitution and rules of a Member must not be in conflict with those of FINA. Where there is a conflict, FINA Rules shall prevail.
And
DC 14.1 All Member Federations shall comply with these Anti-Doping Rules...
USMS is a member of FINA and as such is bound by C.7.2. and DC 14.1.
With that said, I agree with Skip “at this time USMS does not foresee any drug testing with any swimmers”.

I don't think I'd take that bet....since an athlete has already failed a drug test, a Kenyan in fact.
.MUNYASIA (KEN) tested positive and miss the Games 10 Aug. 2004
ATHENS, 10 August - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that boxer David MUNYASIA from Kenya has been excluded from the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad in Athens in 2004 after testing positive for cathine, a prohibited stimulant.
The IOC defines "Olympics" as the period between your arrival in the Olympic Village and the closing ceremonies. Thus this was the first positive doping test of the Olympics
That is quite interesting. Has anyone on this forum ever been tested and care to admit it?
Never been tested but I'll freely admit to (probably/perhaps) have been in the realm of "positive" for caffeine.
Is that bad?
I suspect that the quantity of coffee I drink makes me a doper.
Of course, sometimes it's scalding hot death defying coffee from McDonalds so that makes me a doper and a dare devil.

And I believe the athlete who failed the test tried to use the "games won't start until the 14th excuse"
EPO is also used by kidney dialysis patients.
I hate to differ with aquageek, but technically there is drug testing within USMS. USMS is bound to comply with FINA regulations. This includes drug testing.
As a practical matter, I’m not personally aware of any testing of US Masters Swimmers. But, the actual testing and results are not necessarily a matter of public record, so maybe testing is occurring at the Masters level.

Then how do you explain the fact that, as an organization we DON'T comply (and have no demonstrated intent to comply) with whatever anti-doping rules FINA has and, yet, still remain a member?
Where might one read the FINA anti-doping rules in their entirety?
