Snowball, the fuzzy wonder, is the latest addition to the family. In true puppy dog fashion, he's teething and pretty much chewing everything he can get his little paws on. We've learned to just keep doors closed so that he doesn't get into bedrooms, closets, etc. without someone with him.
Went for a swim last night and left my gym bag in the bathroom... forgot to close the door, and a fuzzy someone went looking for treasures. I went to hunt him down, and he has something large and white in his mouth... my favorite latex swim cap. (Got sort of a tie-dye thing going.) Seems to be that the combination of stretchy, rubbery, and noisy (when you chew it) is quite the thing when having a chew toy. He didn't even have the decency to look guilty! When I finally got it away from him (after chasing him around the house and wrestling him out from under the bed) it was too late... had a few too many holes to be all that useful.
So anyone else lose swim gear to pets?

Don’t throw out that chewed swim cap! Use it as a colander. The next time you cook pasta, stretch the cap over the rim of the pot, flip it over into the sink and let the water drain out through the holes Snowball chewed.

My dogs prefer to destroy shoes and socks, but they will go for a pair of goggles every now and again.
ah puppys.... luckly that chewy stage doesn't last to long-- just seems like it.
one of my dogs likes to drag towels onto his bed and make a nest for himself. Its kinda funny because at 6lbs he weighs about as much as a wet towel.

The first ribbons I ever got in age group swimming - probably "heat winner" ribbons from a developmental meet - I proudly pinned on the bulletin board above my desk in my bedroom. I woke up one night to the sound of Puss yawking...yawking up the ribbons which he had chewed. So not only did I have two half eaten, soggy ribbons, I had a puke mess to clean as well. I didn't think too fondly of my cat for days afterwards...

That's one sick cat! I haven't had the displeasure of a family pet destroying my swimming stuff. My dog is an outdoor dog. The only time she stays indoors is in the cold winter months. and even then, she's in the garage, away from my swimming stuff.

The only thing our greyhound, may she rest in peace, ever destroyed was an industrial-sized bag of brownie mix that we came home to find spread throughout the house, and I mean it was EVERYWHERE.
She used to find my racewalking shorts and drop them in my lap as a hint that we should go for a workout. She would also guard my racewalking shoes and not let the cats near them.
The cats, on the other hand, specialize in destroying things. 2 nights ago I found that the knee pads I use for remodeling projects looked like tigers had been at them.
Cats: When it absolutetly, positively MUST be destroyed overnight.

Both my pull buoy and my kick board have serrated edges- all my puppies have used them as teething toys. They still work and during nasty sets I can always get a smile going looking at them.
No pets have destroyed my equipment...yet. Years ago when I decided to return to the water I purchased (what I thought was) a pretty cool new pull bouy. It lay in the back seat of my car for a few days before I had the opportunity to try it out. While hauling a friends little boy around in the car, I noticed that he was very quiet. When I turned around to have a look, there he sat with a mouth full of foam and about 10 bites of pull bouy all over the seat of the car. I couldn't help but yell, "Do you know where that's been!"
The good thing is it is easy to spot my bouy when it gets tossed in the pile with all the other blue and white striped bouys.

my dog hasnt made a path of destruction in my swimming stuff, but he has got those "little" things, the mortgage bill, important mail id been waiting weeks to recieve, money on the table, glasses, entemans doughnuts,... yeah, i know. he's special. :p
