I'm Veronica, 29, Indonesia. I can't swim, but since i have joints problem, swimming is the perfect exercise I have to do. Since two weeks ago I took a swimming course, it's been 3 times I practice. But, still I can't understand the techniques and breathing. The instructor teachs me freestyle and frogsytle (the spreading legs and kicking out, I dont know the term in English.) Please, explain to me how to float. And the synchronisation of hands stroke and breathing in frogstyle, and handstroke and legs in freestyle (because i always forget to paddle my legs while handstroke.) Please?? Ve

My best advice is to pick up Total Immersian by Terry Laughlin. Itg is hands down the best book on teaching the freestyle.

What you call frog style is probably what is called breaststroke. Now to float. Lay on your back and relax see if you can float. The legs can come down sometimes. If you dont float relax and try again. The idea is to relax to float. ..with free style you want to count your strokes and breath either after 2 or 4 strokes. It can be hard and takes some trying to get used to. One tip is to roll your body instead of trying to lift your head. Watch some of the good swimmers in your area to see how they do it and try. Good Swimming to you!
