Backman ends his posts with "On the next top". The other day someone said that at practice and I hadn't heard it since I was about 12. We use digital clocks now!
I'd love to hear words/sayings used in workout or at meets. Here are some used around our pool:
yak or honk, aka to throw up
the hood's open and the tires are coming off- aka exceedingly tired
switching to guns- aka nothing else is working
"Nightmare on Creek Street" aka a workout to avoid
Irish Mile- aka Kerry's mile (11 laps, 10, 9, 8 etc)
toy box- aka a swimmer who not only has, but uses, every piece of swimming equipment known to man!
garbage can lids- aka TYR swim paddles (sizes 3 and up!)
ugly- aka a very hard set
resource lane- aka the lane we all occasionally end up in where nobody does the set right! nor understands it no matter how many times it is explained!!! (special education reference)
That's all for now... please add on :)

Desert Rat: a 75 where 1st length is underwater, 2nd choice, 3rd no breather. '12 desert rats on the 1:15'
Ding-a-lings: Coach grabs the white pages, opens to a random page, swimmer closes eyes and points to a phone number. The last 4 digits is what everyone swims IM order. So if the number is x-8835 that's 200 fly, 200 back, 75 ***, 125 fr.
Birthday swim: For us this entails a 100 fly where everyone else on the team lines up along both sides of the lane, armed with a kickboard and make as many waves as possible while you swim.
Birthday pushups: At the end of a month (usually Sat.) the entire team will as many pushups as the combined age of all the people who had a birthday that month. So if 3 people turned 25, we'd have 75 push ups.
