Also old dog took note that I said from the onset that it is my theory.
See how bogus you are?
Perhaps not all people read all of your posts.
That's no reason to lash out with personal insults towards them.
That's where you go wrong every single time, you can't argue without trying to insult an belittle people when they disagree with you.
That's where the generalized impression of "Ion can't admit to be wrong" comes from.
And even if on a rare occasion you do admit to be wrong, the bulk of your demeanor and it's impression on people overshadows it. Now, if you staarted reading more about emotional intelligence and people in general little bit more, you'd be able to get your message acroos much better.

The italics are mine, to emphasize that in USMS, 'technique' is a big cliche to suit people who don't want to train.
Are you suggesting that Good Technique can hppen without training?
What I gather so far is that training good technique is actually much more demanding than just doing a bad technique no flipturn swims over and opver again very fast.
Doing a few laps with emphasis on really good technique will challenge your cardio much more than 1000 mindless bad technique laps.
Reading your post I get the impression that perhaps you don't have a full understanding of what the emphasis on good technique really means.
There's no such thing as good technique without hard training.
But there is plenty of hard training utilizing bad technique.

Mark,
Focus on the data that I am talking about here:
"...it's my theory based on empirical data that approaches but not quite touches my claim...".
Yeah, you're talking about data that doesn't support your claim.
Kind of like "Close but no cigar"
Being an engineer, you ought to know just how many times it happened in science that someone postulated a theory based on approximate data, only to see that final piece come in and disprove their theories.
That's just why real scientist are usually little more low key arguing their theories when they lack good data. Otherwise they get known for trumpeting around a lot of fradulent claims and theories, which is what your reputation is starting to become.

You're killing me Mark!
I needed a big laugh! :D

Although Ion has very low opinion of Swim magazine, they run several articles a year, showing Masters swimmers who are faster now than they were in high school/college.
And don' tell Ion, cause he'll eat his heart out, :p I've already gotten published in swim magazine.
:D
Ion has a low opinion of everything and everybody that doesn't agree with him, ot that doesn't have the same opinion of him and he does.
It's a pretty basic defense mechanisam to cover up hurt feelings or a bruised ego. Lot of children use it, till they learn other coping skills.

Sorry Ion, I really don't give much attention to this late bloomer thing, even if I am one.
...
Then you have nothing in common to talk with me about.
For your miscomprehensions, ramble away.

I give up- apparently Ion, who is neither a native English speaker, nor academically qualified in the field of English, cannot do what I ask him and give me a VALID dictionary entry for the word (because it's not a word).
...
Read Swimmily post too.

That reminds me, I need to run out and eat something.
Nah, I just type 6 milion words a minute and I'm too sore from the swim meet to do much but barely lift a finger.
Oh, and I feel like playing with Ionflatable toys today.
I know, I should stop. :o
This thread needs to start tapering, huh?
Perhaps there are two questions:
!. Why isn't Ion swimming faster than he is?
2. Are "late starters" at a relative disadvantage on a physiological basis (Ion's theory--underdeveloped VO2max) that cannot be overcome regardless of the amount of training?
Maybe Ion isn't swimming faster due to his technique, or maybe he just needs more time.
