What I posted in the deleted threads is not indecent. What was posted to me in the deleted thread is not indecent either. Map that thread to the dictionary definition of 'indecent', if you can, please. It can be stupid, based on the quality of the arguments. But sure, Taliban-style like supressing TV and radio, make it 'indecent' and bring in censorhip. How about me starting late in swimming and not making the USMS top top 10 in men 40 to 44, Thompson? Have you learned more on this since September 2003 when you made the blunder to criticize my swimming for not making top 10?

I guess the best way to look at this all is....If you don't want to listen to that crap...DON'T Listen! If you don't want to read those Forums...DON'T Read them! If you don't want to get into a heated debate about a person who takes everything as a personal attack.....DON'T!! A lot of people are spending a lot of time complaining about stuff that they have control over!! My humble personal opinion of course!

Hey Ion, I don't like the USS site becauase there are too many kids. And too many "I go a 1:14 in the 100 breaststroke, am I good" type posts. Now back to a SWIM topic: It has got to be a goal of your to make the top 10 in either the 1650 or 1000. That would require you holding 1:05.5 p/100 for the mile or 1:04.5 p/100 for the 1000. If you can do 16x 100 LCM on 1:25 then you should be able to do a 1000 in less than 11:00 and a mile in less than 18:00 Are those your best events? Second, I asked what a VO2Max set was. You may have answered but I did not have the chance to read the reply.

Hey lefty, good to see you. Now swimmers like us talk, and the politically correct are mute. I think that yesterday in the deleted thread you were stating that with a 1:25 pace per 100 meters one achieves a sub 11:00 in 1,000 yards free. No, 1:25 pace per 100 meters is about 1:15 pace per 100 yards (actually 1:16). So a 1,000 yards in 12:30 which is a pace of 1:15 per 100 yards, corresponds to about a 11:20 in 800 meters which is a pace of 1:25 per 100 meters. In the 2001 Long Course Nationals I did a 11:20 in 800 meters, so I am familiar with the 1:25 pace per 100 meters. In a competition in April 2003 I did a 12:25 in 1,000 yards, which is 1:14.5 pace per 100 yards. December 2003 I was holding the 1:25 pace per 100 meters better than in 2001, so I am improving (that's where I stress the importance of being knowledgeable and truthful in what swimming information USMS and the Swim magazine are spreading out), but for me breaking 12:00 in the 1,000 yards free -a pace of 1:12 per 100 yards- that would be a personal achievement. Think that former age-group swimmers, now USMS swimmers in the men 40 to 44 age group, went in the 2003 Short Course Nationals 9:59, 10:04 and the likes. In the 1,650 yards free they break 20:00 by much and I don't have the speed and the overdistance to do under 20:00, maybe I can do 20:25. I try to get a higher gear, the 1:10 pace per 100 yards, but is not in me. Regarding the VO2Max workouts, they are like 1 to 4 swim to rest ratio. Last Tuesday night I was swimming all-out 300 yards under 3:30 then I was resting for minutes before the next swim. This: www.swimsmarter.com is the program that improved me since November 2002. The picture shown when you click on the link, has me second from the right just after a 2:31 in 200 meter free -which was just after a 800 meter free, so my 200 wasn't rested- in a meet in July 2003, between two coaches.

It probably had nothing to do with me, but as that thread wore on and got way too personal, I did sent a note to the moderator to not lock anyone out but to pull the thread. We can all have differing opinions, express them passionately, and refuse to accept others choices or ideas (Lord knows, Sam and I have recently), but when the attacks become personal such as at age, weight, race, intelligence, than maybe as a society we have let ourselves go too far. We can all tout the Patriot Act, 1st Amendment, censorship, etc and which side we fall on, but being good humans should be a higher priority. We are a cynical, sarcastic, rubbernecking country who should be proud of the freedoms we have, but above all else, we should demonstrate a little civility, common decency and respect for other human beings more consistently than we do in this fragile time. NOW SWIM ON.
