converting times

Howdy! I just formed a Masters group on San Juan Island, WA. We swim in a 25 yard pool and the first and only meet we've attend was also in a 25 yard pool. The next meet on the horizon is in a 25 meter pool. I'm looking for some help in converting our seed times from yards to meters. Is there an easy calculation to help with this? Thanks - b

  • The conversion between short course yards and meters is pretty simple since the number of turns is the same. Since 1 yard = .914 meters, simply divide your time in yards by .914 to get the sc meter equivalent. For example, a 2:10 would be 130/.914 = 142 seconds = 2:22. The only other factor to consider is since a meters race is 9% longer than a yards race, there will be some additional tiring. You might want to add on a second or two to the meters time to account for this.

Did anyone else notice that they are going to make that part of swim info pay? I guess if you want your times you had better do them soon. I wish I had a copy of VB because I would do a program for doing it pretty quick. They also got rid of the numbers at the bottom so you could do the calculations by hand. Does anyone have those numbers they used to have?

I bought a "Swimmers Converter" slide ruler from keifer.com about a year ago. It was only $3 and simple to use.

Try this link: home.earthlink.net/.../timecalc.html Unfortunately it does not convert scm times, but it's free.
