TODAY IS MY 70TH BIRTHDAY :cake:- WOW I'M GETTING TO THE EDGE OF OLD.:cane::afraid:
THIS IS ALSO MY 30TH YEAR IN MASTERS. WHAT A JOURNEY IT HAS BEEN.:applaud:
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN USMS - MASTERS?
Happy Birthday! Welcome to the Septuagenarian age group! Look forward to meeting you and competing with you at the end of the month. I swam in my first masters meet in 1972, but have not been a member the whole time, due to two overseas jobs and some moves to places without a pool or a program. Around 35+ years, including six as a masters swimmer in England ('77 - '80 and '87 - 90).
I struggled in the slowest lane and did maybe half the workout that first day. But I went back...and kept going back. As I moved and traveled, I've swum with different teams.
That's the essence of Masters Swimming. Glad to have you aboard!!!
I joined around September 2002, so I'm going on 14 years. Since joining I've attended nine short course nationals, two long course nationals, two worlds, and one Canadian nationals!
I started swimming with Rogue Valley Masters (Oregon) in August 2011, so this will be my 5th year swimming (I didn't swim when I was younger). My first ever swim meet was December 2011. Since then I've done just about one event (or more) per month, both open water and pool events. I've attended 2 SCY Nationals (going to my 3rd soon!), 3 LCM Nationals, and lots and lots of open water national championships.
I'd say I'm pretty hooked at this point!!!
I joined six years ago, and I've absolutely loved it! :bliss:My first SCY Nationals was two months after joining (Georgia Tech, 2010), and I've been to two other SCY Nationals since (Mesa, 2011 & Greensboro, 2012). I also competed in three LC Nationals (Auburn, 2011; Mission Viejo, 2013; Maryland, 2014), and one World's (Montreal, 2014). What a blast!
