Diving in with goggles

Hi, I am going to be in my first swim meet in a few decades. Goggle design has completely changed since I last competed back in the olden days. I tried diving in with my goggles and could not get them to stay on. They actually stayed on my eyes with the suction, but the straps kept dropping to my ears. I don't think they would stay on through the race with no straps. Any advice? I've already tried: Tightening them till my eyeballs were about to pop off Adjusting the position of the straps on my head a dozen times A couple different types of goggles. Any suggestions of goggles that tend to work better for diving off a starting block? Or tips on how to position goggles so they're least likely to fall off? Thanks!

  • I will try 2 caps in practice some time. Thanx. I used to wear two caps with the goggles in between the two; however, I found it to be too hot and constricting. I switched last year to competing with just one silicone cap with my goggles under it. It seems to work just as well, because I have never lost my goggles in a race. Putting Vaseline around my eyes helps the goggles fit better, and keeping the strap around the crown of my head helps as well. Tucking your chin on the start is a must. :agree:
