How do you finish a breaststroke race?

When you finish do you keep your stroke the same and short stroke into the wall, or do you adjust and try to finish extended? What is faster? For turns I think the answer is to adjust going in to set up a better turn, but for finishes, not so sure.

  • You definitely want to finish fully extended and adjust your stroke accordingly.Conventional wisdom is to do the same with the turns and that is clearly right for many people.Since you need your arms bent to turn, I like to short stroke into the turn to make sure I reach the wall in good position to turn.
