Major 1650 sandbagging by a forum member

Looks like it is to gain 20 minutes of rest before doing the 400 IM. What do you folks think? Fair play or not? I say anyone attempting the 1650 and 400 IM back to back deserves some slack.
  • I really don't think it is fair to put a derogatory label on distance swimmers. It's fine. I am one. :)
  • It is hard for me to describe the feeling of camaraderie that I experience when I am lapped twice.:violin: :violin: :violin: Maybe if you trained harder, you could get lapped twice by sandbaggers like Patrick instead of Michael. :troll_with_sign:

Plus sprinters are very capable of operating the counters for the distance freaks too. Yes,but after they put "3" in the water, sprinters have to have a mid distance person behind them to remind them of the next number.

I will take that as an invitation. If you post your entry time here for all to see, I will be happy to enter the same time. I think you should enter a time that you realistically expect to swim. I will be entering the 800 with a 10:31.51.

Camaraderie. Learn it, live it...Like I said, I didn't beat most of them by much. Actually you lapped four of the other six swimmers in your heat, and one of those four was lapped twice. It is hard for me to describe the feeling of camaraderie that I experience when I am lapped twice. Glad you enjoyed your race.

  • Laura Val, during, in my opinion, the single greatest swim in masters history, swam a 1500 free setting 6 world records in the process: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 free. Setting records with foot touches; no problem. I agree Rich, that was totally amazing!! How does she do it??
  • No, what really irks me is that article in SWIMMER magazine about foods you should never eat or something like that. EVERY SINGLE food mentioned is a STAPLE in my diet, particularly SWEDISH FISH. Now, I do agree they aren't good for you, but the article is a rehash about everything we already KNOW. So stop writing dumb recycled articles, and the article should be HOW TO MODIFY or SUBSTITUTE items. Chowmi, when I'm faced with deep, profound, life-altering questions like this, "Should I eat the Swedish Fish before workout?" I just pause and ask myself WWRLD? I don't ask myself, like the SWIMMER article did, WWGWGD (http://athleticfoodie.com/). We know Garrett wouldn't eat the swedish fish, But, Ryan? Oh, yeah, he'd eat the fish. In fact, I heard him interviewed and he answered that question thusly, "Uhhhhhhhh (very long pause), you know YOLO man, so JEAH! like as long as you're gonna be a man in the morning, you gotta eat the swedish fish. (another pause) Did I say JEAH?"
  • Apparently it is difficult to respond to this thread without the use of hyperbole. You prefer sarcasm, I know. I may have paraphrased Chris' hyperbole incorrectly. Instead of saying sandbagging is "tantamount" to terrorism and infanticide, I should have said that it is "as invalid as." Ban it, ban it, ban it! The trick is in communicating that ban to the 100s of sandbagging men, you and Stud excepted of course. My vice remains potato chips. Swedish fish are unappealing.
