Who will find a list of "life time banned" swimmers like the East germans & Chinese swimmers that were found using banned drugs???
I know Wikipedia is not the best source but it does have a list(incomplete as stated on the page) of athletes who received bans for drugs.

There are quite a few swimmers!
I am on the let Lance swim side. America is all about, using Lance as an example, falling from a great height, hitting bottom, and redemption. Birth and Re-Birth. One of the better examples of this is Robert Downey Jr. A lifetime ban is too much, he's not a criminal. A temporary ban yes. I believe people are generally good, and will come around and forgive him in time.
Would someone educate the rest of us on how countries "roll up" at the Olympic level? I ask because if Lance wants to race so badly, what's to stop him from simply leaving the US with his "management team"? Would he show up representing some country on another continent? Not necessarily the Olympics, but just asking, to go in the back door, so to speak?
does not matter what country!
2013 FINA rule book page 398, INTRODUCTION, 1st sentence.
Many of the winners of the Tour during Lance's time were using EPO. That does not make it right nor does it excuse Lance's behavior but it was the hand he was dealt, he had to use EPO or have no chance of winning.
USMS has their own set of rules governing membership and competition. We have taken our own course seperate from FINA in the past. We allowed Armstrong to become a member but now we will not let him swim, a situation which does not make sense either legally or morally. We should follow FINA's rules when they are not in conflict with our rules. We should never follow FINA's rules or anyone else's rules where it would lead to an immoral or unjust result. FINA can keep Lance out of the Worlds and Pan Ams, but I think USMS should act ethically and fairly towards Armstrong who became a member and FINA did not object at the time. If FINA wants him out of USMS let them establish good cause at a hearing before USMS. The doping was in s different sport a long time ago.
And remember that he does get other benefits of membership that are not competition. He can join a masters team, and go to workout, and USMS insurance would I believe cover him (and club, etc.) in the event of an accident/injury during that workout. He can also receive Swimmer magazine. :-)

jeff and rick, you are both correct because of usms not following their own rules.
usms needs to retract their statement, revoke his membership, refund his membership dues and zone entry and wave goodbye.
believe me when i say this is topic #1 when i see rob bultcher today or tomorrow if he really is coming to austin.
He can also receive Swimmer magazine. :-)
Is that part of USADA's punishment? :afraid:
(Just kiddling, I like SWIMMER. This place is just getting so serious lately...)
