Personnally, I am more of NASCAR guy than NPR, but that's just me. If we were to go with your examples listed above, how many other people that belong or have belonged to usms would have to be banned from competing for bullying tactics? Let's not be naive to think that Lance is the only person in usms(past and present) to have a shady side.
Right -- there was no background check to join USMS. We have no idea what other competitors at meets have done in their past. The difference is that Armstrong is a public figure so everything he's done is out there. If it is clearly in the rules that USMS has to follow FINA in this, then he has to be out. Otherwise, I would have no problem swimming with him.
Who will find a list of "life time banned" swimmers like the East germans & Chinese swimmers that were found using banned drugs???
Has any swimmer ever received a lifetime ban? I'm not aware of any that have.

when was the last time a Zone meet was mentioned on the BBC or UKnews or NYtimes or CNN?
or here is an even bigger one:
when was the last time the pysche sheet changed 1 day before the meet just because someone withdrew?
yes a missed oppertunity of a carnival freak show
step right up ladys and gents, see if the doper can beat everyone else!
Once could argue that the lifetime ban should have been relegated to bike racing and not swimming, but all the second place finishers of the Tour might beg to differ. This was one of the biggest sports charades in history and the punishment seems to reflect that.
According to the Austin American Statesman, Rob was "flooded" with requests from journalists who wanted to cover the meet. A Masters Zone meet. Can you imagine?
A missed opportunity.
