Does anyone else out there use a drag suit or a drag belt for workouts? I wear an old, stretched out suit that I wear over another stretched out suit for workouts. They create a lot of drag! I wear them for most of my workouts.
I also use a drag belt. It is a mesh suit that looks like a men's suit, except it has 4 pockets that are held open with plastic to create a parachute effect. I have two. One is older and is made by TYR. The other is new and made by FINA. I only do a few sets with these since they make for a very hard swim.
I find that these two forms of drag give me a good hard workout! Does anyone else do this?

I've always got on my drag suit over my briefs. I wear a size 28/30 for my racing suit, but my size 38 drag suit is definitely way oversized. I just tie it on good and no problems. I feel the difference for sure, and only swim without a drag suit at meets. In college I used to swim with a pair of swim trunks over the top of everything as well. I did cut out the inner liner, and sliced the legs on the inside on outside of the thighs for greater range of motion. It sure had an effect on me in practice, but when it came to race time I was off and it was soooo easy.
A lot of folks out there won't wear drag suits, because they say it affects their form in the water or something to that effect. I train fast, slow, short distance repeats, long distance repeats, freestyle, IM, strokes, it doesn't matter. Drag suit all the way.
Drag suit half the time. Usually when I swim indoors, or when I swim outdoors at night. Don't want to ruin the tan line when I swim outdoors in the daylight. LOL.
I mix it up to get a different feel for the water. Briefs, Jammers, Square Cuts, Drag Suits. I swim in different pool constantly so I'm not used to the same pool all the time.
I have a really stretched out suit from last year that I put over what is now becoming a really stretched out suit from this year. I'll get a new 'undersuit' for next year and the only question is - will I use one or both of the old ones for drag?
I've never used a parachute/belt but I'm sure it gives a great workout.
I LOVE the feeling of swimming without the drag at meets.
(putting in smilies because they're there...)

That's exactly why I use the drag, for the feel of the swim without it.
The belt gives a great, hard workout. I have to work hard on the turns and push offs!
I never hear any of the olympic swimmers talk about the belt or drag suits.
Up through college I wore customary drag suits (mesh, etc), but I got away from them shortly thereafter. I've been practicing with two briefs for the last ten years. I'm tired enough from my workouts, so I don't need added misery :)
If I was intending to haul weights, Or swim with open pockets, I might practice with a drag suit.
But I'm not, so I don't. No sense in developing a stroke technique that supports something I don't intend to do.
