How do goggles get scratched? They're generally only in contact with water.

I don't know what goggles are made of. There used to be (and sometimes still is) a key difference in the composition of masks, ones made of plastic and ones made of tempered glass. The plastic ones are prone to getting scratched in a multitude of ways but are probably safer around kids. I've had glasses that were likewise poor quality and then had polycarbonate glasses which have always been pretty scratch resistant. They make plastic boxes for dive masks, they'd probably work for goggles too so you don't scratch them up in your bag amongst your things. Also, I've never had my glasses scratch 'just from wearing them.'
