200 Free, 200 Fly, 400 IM (which he swore he would never do again). Anyone doubt he'll make the team in the 100 Fly & 200 IM?
That's 5 individual events. He'll be on the 800 FR for sure. As one of the top 2 flyers, he will be on the 400 MR and as coaches choice, we assume will get a spot on the 400 FR.
Seriously, it's doable and I think that's what he is striving for. No way he would have endured the 400 IM unless 8/8 is his objective.

The Russians and French also have some good 100 freestylers... That 400 FR should be a real barn burner for medals (here are the times from their respective Olympic Trials and their combined flat start times);
Aussies (3:11.58)
James Magnussen 47.10
James Roberts 47.63
Matt Targett 48.32
Eamon Sullivan 48.53
French (3:13.73)
Yannick Agnel 48.02
Fabien Gilot 48.38
Clement Lefert 48.64
Amaury Levaux 48.69
Russians (3:13.89)
Danila Izotov 48.27
Nikita Lobintsev 48.39
Andrey Grechin 48.44
Vladimir Morozov 48.79
So far, the top 4 times out of semi's for the US men combined would be a 3:14.37 (just the semi's so far, and that's without a leg swum by Phelps).
We'll see how much faster they get tonight.
