Hello experts,
As part of my Scuba-diving certification, I need to demonstrate that I can swim 200 metres non-stop. The problem(s) are:
** I've been practising for the last 2 weeks, but how much I try I can't swim more than 100 Metres.
** I only know to swim freestyle and Breaststroke.
** As I was/am a body-builder I have reasonably good muscles, but very little stamina.
I am in deep s**t. If I can't show them I can swim for 200 metres I'll loose my money. I badly need to do scuba-diving as well!! What can I do, experts please give me some suggestions. The main question is - Can I achieve the 200 metres in the next 2 weeks. I am ready to sacrifice any sort of practice?
Cheers

Do the requirements allow you to do the swim with mask/fins/snorkel?
If not, it's possible you could get quite a bit more distance by having a coach fix your stroke. Many times a couple of small adjustments can provide some surprisingly positive results. Check at your pool and see if there's a coach available to review your stroke, it could be a simple fix.
Good luck!
How often are you breathing on freestyle? If you are breathing every 3 strokes it might be much easier if you breath every 2. I would also recommend getting a coach to look at your stroke.
You should practice at least 4 times a week until the test. You can easily do this if you work on your technique and keep practicing.

when is your deadline?
learn to swim with ease
you don't have to swim fast and you're better off swimming easy
have a friend who can swim give you one on one swimming lessons
copy this technique:

Do you keep your head down in the water? If you hold it up all the time , that is very hard.
Are you trying to swim too fast? Slow down true arm stroke & push all the way back to your hips before pulling your hand out .
Exhale under water so that when you puck your head up you can breathe in.
To sum it all up in one word: RELAX
Swimming is so much easier when you allow yourself to feel comfortable in the water and don't fight yourself.
After taking Ande's excellent advice in the last post, try this: Before each swim session, do some deep breathing and get yourself to relax before you even get in the water. Next, get in the water and just float on your back. While floating, relax your muscles and just enjoy being in the water. Now, you are ready to practice. As you are swimming, try to keep that relaxed feeling and don't fight the water; try to keep your muscles loose and relaxed. And, remember to BREATHE! If you feel yourself tensing up and anxiety setting in, STOP. Float again for awhile, do some deep breathing, and try to get comfortable again. Just set a goal of swimming one lap at a time, staying relaxed for the entire lap. Then, add another lap. See if you can keep increasing the number of laps you can swim while staying relaxed and comfortable. Before you know it, I'll bet you will make it to 200m, no problem!
Try not to put pressure on yourself, because that will increase your stress level and make it difficult for you to stay relaxed and swim. Have confidence in yourself and believe you can do it, and you will.:cheerleader:
