So, this happened:
5 THORPE, IAN 29 SOPAC, NSW 1:50.79 1:49.16B 815
r:+0.77 25.15 51.78 (26.63)
1:19.87 (28.09) 1:49.16 (29.29)
I dare say that is a good prelim time.
Also, Huegill is looking strong in the semis of my favorite non-Olympic event:
1 HUEGILL, GEOFFR 33 SOPAC, NSW 23.74 23.58 860
That's great for the kid who made the team, but sure reflects poorly on Australia's distance swimming right now. Those times are frankly terrible. 40 seconds off the world record wins the event? It took a 14:49 just to make finals in Beijing.
17 yr old Cameron Mcevoy had many amazing swims
50 free 22.32semis,
100 fr finals 48.58 for 5th making their olympic team.
23.35 25.23
1:47.79 in 200 fr finals for 6th making their olympic team
24.92 27.50 27.57 27.80,
tied for 7th in the semis with a 1:48.35 edging out Nick Frost's 1:48.38
awesome RT's
0.61 in 1 fr finals
0.60 in 1 fr semis
0.60 in 1 fr prelims
Actually, neither of them made the Olympic A cut, so I guess the 15 year old is not going to London.

ouch
wonder if they can do a time trial and if so what's the cut off date
wonder if grant will come out of retirement

As he made the B time, one swimmer can be selected, but that wouldn't be firmed up until later. There may be another opportunity to get A times as there is in Britain (only in events that haven't yet been filled).
I suspect that this would be an example where the winner would be selected with a B time to provide him with the experience of Olympic competition.
