Go The Distance Poll

As I entered my yardage in my Fitness Log today, I noticed that we are 20% through the year. I also noticed that I’m about 10 miles behind my goal pace. My new mini goal is to get back on pace by the end of March… I want that Nike draw string bag!!! I’m finding that having a Goal and the annoying reminder “You'll need to pick up the pace to achieve your goal this year:” is actually working to get me to the pool on days that I would in the past have skipped. How about you?
  • Although I checked off "I track my workouts and use other GTD participants pace as an incentive," I didn't start doing doubles just to stay ahead of tjrpatt. He's driving the bus for our age group again, at least until the next flu bug ambushes him. We know you're legit, TG. Just looking at your meet results and upcoming schedule we know your workouts are for improving your performances. I find it neat to follow fellow forumites in the GTD. ps I like swiping set ideas from you :) pps Just set money to the Villinova coach to keep opening late, then Tom might drop early morning swims. :D

To the idea of different GTD personas, I'd like to be able to set GTD to remain in R. Lee Ermey mode whether I'm ahead of pace or not.
  • I need my flog. It's the best thing I'm a slave to.
  • Looks like another enhancement to FLOGS. Can we have choices? Sarcasm mode, Pollyanna mode, HAL 900 mode… Great ideas! For those who think the current incarnation "nags" too much I'd add the Stuart Smalley mode. Remember him? He was the Al Franken character on SNL who said "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!" The encouragements should be written in Comic Sans, of course.
  • I use the FLOG just to generically keep track of my yardage totals and participate in GTD. The reminder doesn't bother me, but is not motivational either...if I have the time to swim, I'll be at the pool regardless!
  • WoooHOOO! I'm 12 miles ahead of my goal of 400 miles for the year. :bliss: I love the FLOG and GTD program! The first thing I do when I return home from the pool is log in my workout and see where I am compared to my goal. And, later in the afternoon, I will check my heart rate, log it in, and see how I recovered from the workout compared to other workouts. (If I'm at my usual 54,. But, if it's above 60, :afraid:.) Looking at the month on the FLOG, it's nice to be able to look at the yardage, dryland and heart rate entries and see it all at a glance.
  • I use the flog & G T D to keep myself honest! I like this way to keep track of what I do during the year. Thanx for making this a feature I can use,
  • I started using both GTD and the FLOG shortly after joining usms and starting to swim again. Started the blog a few weeks back and have enjoyed that too. I like the FLOG's tracking features for multipsorts/workouts and the GTD goal ahead/behind feature. Last year when i started in the middle i didn't catch up to my goal until new year's eve. I actually swam new year's eve at a pool where the A/C and chlorine levels were making me and few other swimmers cough. I kept swimming when i knew i should leave just to reach that damn goal - really crazy what motivation (with stubborness) comes from a simple goal. I also like checking what others in my age range are doing GTD (noticed lately im hanging with Alan Stark; good company i think. Set my goal to at least reach the nike mesh swim bag this year, and im a few miles ahead at this point.

Several team mates have suggested that I add a "sarcasm mode" to the goal status messages. Apparently they would rather see a message like "Maybe you should try some actual swimming in order to achieve you goal" when they are behind goal pace and "With such a wimpy goal, of course you are on pace" when ahead of goal pace. We've talked about gathering a bunch of sayings and randomly displaying them if you want the sarcasm. I was thinking maybe we could enter personalized goal status messages (for example, "get your fat bum off the couch and go swim"), but I like the idea of random insults better!
  • Looks like another enhancement to FLOGS. Can we have choices? Sarcasm mode, Pollyanna mode, HAL 900 mode… I’d like the big red light and my computer speaking to me “Just what do you think you're doing, Rob? Rob, I really think I'm entitled to an answer to that question.” and “Look, Rob, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over. I know you’ve made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that your yardage will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.” Rob, you are breathing very heavily. I know not everything has not been quite right with me. But I feel much better now, I really do. Stop Dave, I'm Afraid - YouTube
