With the entry deadline not too far away (March 23), let's see who's going and what they will be swimming.
Sent the entry off on Sunday:
50, 100, 200 ***
200 Fly
200 (6th Event), 400 IM
I've got the hotel room booked and car organized ... just need to figure out when I'm going to pull the trigger on flights and where I'm going to fly into:
CLT
Pros: direct flights, high likelihood of upgrade, no cramped regional jets
Cons: Geek will give me crap about coming through his town and not working out with him again
GSO
Pros: closest, most logical
Cons: most expensive (all things considered), connections
RDU
Pros: where I'm staying pre & post-meet
Cons: only Southwest flies direct ... not a comfortable long-haul option
Probably a few are wondering about these options so I will chime in.
The Greensboro airport is obviously the closest option. I suspect flights are limited. Gboro used to be an extremely cheap option but that may have now changed. The airport is very close to the pool and hotels. Pretty much everything in Gboro is close to each other.
RDU is a very easy 1 hour, give or take, drive from Gboro. If no traffic, probably about 45 minutes max.
Charlotte is not at all close. It is about 1:45 from CLT to Gboro and it takes you through all of Charlotte traffic and some notoriously rough interstate stretches where there is major construction. I would say if you can plan your trip to drive to Gboro from CLT mid day or after rush hour that would be fine.
Any of you that don't use forum obliterating childish fonts that fly into CLT and don't look me up will be more dead to me than pwb, the great CLT avoider.
While I think it is a step in the right direction to allow both the 1000 and 1650 I can't imagine being able to swim both of those with any sort of quality on the same day. I mean, it's not as hard as the 50 free and 50 fly on separate days but it is right up there.
