By doing that, they have to get rid of other programs.Just another urban legend… Most college football programs do not make money. Some appear profitable because of alumni financial support and endowments and some because of television revenue. However, without the huge monetary boost from outside dollars almost all major college football programs would be deficit leaders. We are seeing more college swim teams adopting this model of seeking endowment and alumni support to turn the sport more profitable, but it has a long way to go. Colleges do NOT “have to get rid of other programs” they can work to keep and expand varsity and club offerings. But they need to be willing to work.
