I guess the endurance fabrics have made a difference in longevity of suits, as knelson pointed out. I usually train with jammers, but I have an older mesh suit that I wear when I also wear my square leg suit or when I am getting ready to taper. Being that I have dropped 16 pounds since the new year, the jammer is pretty loose these days, but I don't plan on buying another suit for a while since I just receive the yingfa for races.
I actually wore the drag suit the other day for the IM set in workout one of HVW - took it off for the full IM swims in an attempt to get near my addup time.
Just started wearing an old, badly stretched out jammer over my regular jammer the past two work-outs. The thing comes almost down to my ankles and flops all over - like it's a dress (gives another meaning to "drag" suit?)
I'm not too concerned about it messing up my stroke. If anything, it will have me fighting that much harder for every bit of efficiency and streamlining. And it will feel so good when I finally take it off - it's so damn annoying!
The girls on my club team wear them. According to the coach, they wear them only when AF is in town. I can only confirm that they wear them sometimes, but not other times.
(my personal feeling on drag suits is I wear one first half of the season, swimming with that extra resistance. I then peel down to just a brief in the back half of the season when I am working on more race rehearsal stuff.)
I think the reality is it's OK for women to wear form-fitting clothing and not so OK for men to do so (in Western society). Same reason women wear bikinis at the beach and men wear baggy board shorts.
My stretched out $15 Agon grab-bag suit (purchased at Nationals) IS a drag suit! It has gotten so stretched out that my fingers sometimes get caught on it when I go to streamline on my breaststroke pullouts. :afraid:When I climb the ladder to get out of the pool after my workout, it dumps loads of water on the deck. BUT, it hasn't split yet! :D I'm determined to wear it until the bitter end. I do, however, keep a back-up in my gear bag, just in case I have a wardrobe malfunction. That would give the noodlers a good laugh! :bolt:
I always wear two briefs.
Age group girls on my team typically wear one or two regular suits.
Age group guys usually wear jammers, some of them with drag suits over.
I'm pretty sure I've seen women or girls use a men's drag suit over their regular suit at practice before. Is that not a realistic option?

I've seen this on many occasions as well as (the rare) swimming in running skirts over their suit.
