Women in drag

Why is it that you only ever see guys wearing drag suits in workout?
  • Why is it that you only ever see guys wearing drag suits in workout? I wonder the same. I remember wearing multiple suits in practice when I was in high school. What's changed?
  • Are you talking about wearing multiple suits? If so, I don't see anyone doing this anymore. I think one reason we wore a couple suits back in the day is because the suits faded out so quickly. If you wore a single suit you'd be giving a peep show!

If you wore a single suit you'd be giving a peep show! I still wear 2-3 suits. One or two briefs below a size 40 extra large drag suit cinched up tight as hell so it doesn't fall off! :) I like being able to perform fast times in practice like this, and then wearing a meet suit for competitions to feel extra good in the meets. Why waste the "good stuff" for practices? :)
  • Are you talking about wearing multiple suits? Not really. Talking about the female equivalent of www.metroswimshop.com/product.DFN_6615T.htm.

Why waste the "good stuff" for practices? :) Why not work on the good stuff at practice? I have the opposite view. Swimming fast is about drag reduction. I don't want anything interfering with that or perfect streamlines. What you do in practice, you do in meets. If I were less lazy, I'd wear old speed suits in practice on occasion.

Oh, don't worry...I work on the good stuff too, but it's all relative. :) I love to swim fast at practice as well. Knowing that I can do a 4:52 400 IM with all the drag, no cap, no dive, etc. in practice makes me even more confident that I'll crush my time in a meet performance. This "argument" of sprinter vs. distance person could go on forever and ever. I know what makes me feel good, you know what makes you feel good.
  • I would like to recommend my good friends at this link. Men's Brief Style Drag Suit, www.hardcoreswim.com/SearchResults.asp and Women's Drag Swim Suits. www.hardcoreswim.com/SearchResults.asp I personally own three swim briefs from this company, plus one of their t-shirts. Pretty new company they are in my geographic area. All of the staff are swimmers, plus one swimming coach. The swimming and water polo teams in this area using this company really like their products. If you were at the SCM Championships in Long Beach this past December, then you had a good chance to see me wear this suit. I received numerous compliments on it. www.hardcoreswim.com/SearchResults.asp Here's the t-shirt I wear. Received numerous compliments on the t-shirt too. www.hardcoreswim.com/ProductDetails.asp

Not sure it's a sprinter vs distance person argument ... I used to wear drag suits and nylons as an age grouper too. I just look at things differently now. The only artificial drag I want is when I use my parachute or cordz for power work.
  • I have a nylon mesh drag suit in a women's tank style. It slows me down way more than my male teammates' mesh drag briefs slow them down. It is like swimming in an apron. I am the only person I have ever seen using one, but I stopped using it because I think it alters my body position in a bad way.
  • At a recent meet I went to, the age groupers were finishing up their early morning work out when I got there.Everyone of the girls was wearing a thin T shirt under her suit.I asked one of the coaches about it and he said it was for drag and for warmth.
