Preliminary Top 10 Listings Available for SCM 2011

Preliminary listings have been posted here: http://www.usms.org/comp/tt/ If you see any errors, please PM me or email Mary Beth Windrath by Feb 27.
  • (Hey, I just discovered the joy of the "format remover" in the toolbar. Who SAYS that this thread has outlived its usefulness!) ¿ʍou ɹǝʌoɯǝɹ ʇɐɯɹoɟ ɹnoʎ sı ǝɹǝɥʍ
  • Weird, it changed ¿ʍou ɹǝʌoɯǝɹ ʇɐɯɹoɟ ɹnoʎ sı ǝɹǝɥʍ to You, sir, are truly the cat's meow.
  • Weird, it changed to I say, dear chap, what do you suppose this said before the filter cleaned it up?
  • And another thing... Jim, How did you swim in the Albatross Meet? Are the results up yet? And BTW, what is your opinion on all THIS ISSUE going foward, because what's done is done and I know you also lost some swims because of this issue. I am not sure USMS wants to get into the pool measuring business and I don't think the answer is to buy cheap lasers and have untrained swimmers measure pools. I think we would achieve similarly accurate results by having Madam Marie, the gypsy from the boardwalk, eyeball the pool and guess it's length. The woman has a great eye. She can guess anyone's weight within 2 lbs just by looking at them and she's never wrong. I bet she could do the same thing with pools. Are you with me?:worms:
  • This thread now has as much to do with the top 10 listings as me posting here.

He already said what he thought above: He wishes that R&T had voted to propose an exemption for Canadian Nationals, and believes the USMS rule is unduly demanding and persnickety. He has not had any times thrown out for failure to measure. He has lost some times when meets were de-recognized or when meets advertised to be recognized were not. And he lost times swimming in an "open" event in an Ohio meet when the referee mistakenly told him the times would count for TT. The person who was really penalized by the failure to measure was Diane Uustal who lost a slew of USMS records as a result. I believe Kelly Parker Palace in my age group also lost some AA times.
  • The person who was really penalized by the failure to measure was Diane Uustal who lost a slew of USMS records as a result. Diane set two WRs at the meet. She since went faster in one of those events in a measured SCM pool, so she has that USMS record with a faster time. In the other event she subsequently went a hair slower and her TTR is working with the meet director to get that event approved as a USMS record. As an aside to any TTRs: this is a good reason to keep those bulkhead measurements on file. They need to be submitted with USMS record applications, but not for TTR submissions (they need to be DONE but don't have to be mailed out). However, VERY often a record is not recognized until the times are submitted for TT consideration, possibly months after the meet. But if the TTR kept the measurements and the meed director kept the meet paperwork -- as they both should -- then it is still possible to submit the record application.
  • The 2011 FINA Top Ten are now available at www.fina.org Direct link (because it isn't obvious -- to me, anyway -- to click the "Statistics" menu for this): www.fina.org/.../index.php Congrats to everyone who made the list in SCM and LCM. Remember that FINA does not consider times done at USA-S and other "recognized" meets (like Senior Games), so those swims won't be in the FINA TT, assuming Mary Beth knew that the meet was not USMS sanctioned.
  • My 1500 LCM free from 2009 would have made FINA TT for 2011. Gosh Darn it. Maybe this summer I can get back in gear.
  • BTW, the R&T Committee produced this article in 2010 that addresses many of the topics in this thread: www.usms.org/.../articledisplay.php
