UT has fired JT today, after 23 years of leading the Vols. The AD gave the reason as "gross misconduct."

JT has coached Melvin Stewart, Jeremy Linn, Tripp Schwenk and others to olympic medals in his yeas as a coach.
As I think I've said I went to JT's swim camps at Mercersberg for a couple of summers when I was a kid, so I only know him a little. But from what I knew of him I thought the man walked on water. He was charismatic and motivating, and I learned a lot at his camps. .
I too went to Mercersburg camps in 81, 82 and 83, usually for 2 weeks each summer, and have (had?) pretty much the same impressions as you. I was flabbergasted reading that article. We're all human, and I guess I put nothing past anyone, but I am truly shaken to the core, and I haven't see JT in 30 years.
