UT has fired JT today, after 23 years of leading the Vols. The AD gave the reason as "gross misconduct."
www.swiminfo.com has the story.
JT has coached Melvin Stewart, Jeremy Linn, Tripp Schwenk and others to olympic medals in his yeas as a coach.
JT would greet swimmers at morning practice, afternoon practice, coaches at clinics with that statement.
He would have the biggest smile on his face when saying it too. Made you feel like you were going to have a great day
Jeremy is keeping his tradition on. You can tell the newbies with him when they don't answer or answer correctly. He gets a kick out of that.
The AD would really have some chutzpah if he welcomed JT into his office and greeted him with, "It's a beautiful day!" And then proceed to tell him he is fired effective immediately...:bolt:
The Knoxville paper reported that the AD sent him a letter to inform him of the firing. Wonder if he used that as his closiing lines?
Or the letter's opening line.

And JT would have even more chutzpah if he responded to his firing by shouting out, "It's great to be alive!!!"
the article on WBIR.com
gross misconduct is defined as:
theft or dishonesty;
gross insubordination;
willful destruction of University property;
falsification of records;
acts of moral turpitude;
reporting for duty under the influence of intoxicants:
illegal use, manufacture, possession, distribution, or dispensing of controlled substances or alcohol;
disorderly conduct;
provoking a fight; and other similar acts involving intolerable behavior by the employee.
I'm going to guess (hope for) gross insubordination.
Coach Bussard used to say, "It's a beautiful day, it's great to be alive!" every day before workout. You always knew you were in for it. This surprises me. JT is a great individual. He is a friend of mine. I feel bad for him and wonder what happened. He was named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2011 for the, I believe, 6th time. Why fire the C.O.T.Y.? Must be something big.
