2012 SCY "Last Chance" meet. Any suggestions?

I'm shopping for a "last chance" meet for the 2012 SCY season. It should be, After SCY nats, but before the end of the SCY season. That pretty much means one of the four weekends in May, either May 7-8, May 14-15, May 21-22, or May 28-29. A well-run, larger meet, with plenty of rest between events, in an excellent, indoor (backstroke-friendly) pool. Somewhere in the US (of course, SCY = US), but it does not necessarily have to be in the continental US. If there's an excellent meet in Alaska or Hawaii, it could be considered. In a nice, vacation-worthy destination. And that does not necessarily rule out Texas! We are openminded! There are interesting things to see almost everywhere, even in Texas! This is the first time I'm looking outside my immediate neighborhood, so I'm not at all familiar with the excellent meets outside of my zone. I am sure they are there, I'm just unaware. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  • While the date is not set yet there is usually one in Vermont that is after nationals, in a nice pool and a pretty big NE meet. Last year it was the weerkend before Memorial day.

I started doing that last year, and have now made a few ventures outside of the Washington/Oregon/Idaho area. I'm planning on doing at least one "road trip" via the airlines of course do different areas around the U.S. or Canada for more fun and different competition experiences. Maybe one day I'll be in your area. :)

Maybe one day I'll be in your area. :) I did a bit of that this year, going to the excellent Albatross meet in Bethesda, and the excellent Bridge the Bay meet in Sarasota. I got schooled by some truly outstanding swimmers, including forumites Fort and Matyskej, and nearly lost a 400 IM to the shockingly fast, 60 year old, Shirley Loftus-Charley. Good times! If you're ever in the neighborhood, you're more than welcome to teach me a thing or two!

As far as getting schooled in a 400 IM, back in November I very nearly got creamed in the 400 SCM IM by a 60 year old former Olympian Rick Colella. Here is the heat As you can tell, I'm not a breaststroker. :)
  • Is that an offer to host an overnight stay?? :D I always look for the cheap way out. Sure, no problem! Heck, if there's ever a meet close enough that staying at my house makes sense, I'll invite the whole of USMS to stay over! Is this a great sport, or what?
  • They are out there! Is this a great sport, or what? Heck yeah!!! Let's just say I was happy to beat a 60 year old!! :applaud:

Hey Judd, nice to meet you at the Georgia Tech meet. The Classic City meet at UGA right down in Athens is usually right about that time, though I haven't seen a definitive date or if it's yards or meters.

I like the St. Nick's meet at GaTech; the host club, Atlanta Rainbow Trout, does a great job, it's lots of fun, and of course it's a fast pool. Classic City meet ... For the last 10 years, the Classic City meet has been LCM, and on the first weekend in June. So probably it'll be the same this year. Maybe I'm daydreaming, but I'm thinking maybe there might be a late-season SCY meet, maybe somewhere out west, for people who would have a tough time making it all the way to Greensboro for SCY nats. Maybe? The USMS calendar of events doesn't show anything yet, but maybe something will turn up.
  • Colella's 5:04.54 seemed awfully fast to me, so I looked it up, and yeah, that was a world record ... by over 18 seconds! Rick Colella had a very good meet indeed: four events, four world records. They are out there! Is this a great sport, or what?
