At risk of "beating a dead horse"....at least in respect to broaching this topic again! I had a number of conversations at convention with people who would like to see USMS move to a 3rd Championship meet in the fall for short course meters.
There are some great Zone meets going on...when you have 600+ going to Long Beach or New England why not up the ante a bit?
Thoughts?
I voted yes -- as I have remarked previously. On the east coast, I feel like we rarely have a chance to swim SCM; almost every meet is SCY.
But will people give up LB or NE Champs in favor of a National Champs? Or will they attend both meets?

Why wouldn't either of those events bid to have their meet be nationals? And if one gets it the other goes on as a lot of folks won't travel across the country regardless.
You need a third option of "I don't know,it depends."I kind of like the idea, but make it too late and it runs into the holidays. The LB meet is a great meet in a fast pool at a good time for me,I just wish the building was heated as I am always freezing while there.
The NE meet is already pretty much at its maximum capacity, calling it a national championship only means it will close earlier, not get bigger or faster. I don't know the situation at LB.
Spring nationals can already be SCM, of course.

By at capacity, do you mean the BU facility? If the meet was extended an extra day (like a National Champs) that would spread the events out more.
Has there been consideration of this at Convention?
I voted yes! :agree: I agree with Fort; there isn't much going on in SCM on the east coast. In the Atlanta area, there is only one SCM meet to compete in (St. Nick's) and that one may not even happen this year, because of difficulties getting it date scheduled.
I voted no. SCM is the last relatively easy way to make the Top 10. If you build it, they will come. If you create a National Championship, we shlubs will lose our best chance to squeak into the Permanent Record Book of Swimming Grandeur for Old People.
Take away our Social Security if you must.
Make health insurance so expensive we will be forced to choose between penicillin and Fancy Feast.
But please, please! Do not take away our best chance to preserve the illusion of youth!
I am not aware of any facilities that have two 25scm pools but doubt that even a national championship would draw over a 1000 swimmers. I think Long Beach had close to 800 in recent years...spread that over 4 days and you have a very manageable meet.
