Could someone explain how a 4-beat kick works. I don't understand how you get symmetry to the stoke if you are not doing an odd number of kicks per side. The only way I can pull a true 4 - beat kick is by kicking 2X in succession each leg. Like a double 2 - beat :). An easy way to confirm your kick pattern is with video review.
Sorry, still trying to understand. You said, "2 beat for 100 pace and slower, 6 beat for 200 pace and faster." So, you go 2-beat for 100 pace, 125 pace, 150 pace... etcI re-read what I wrote and noticed I should have clarified a little more. Thank you, written communication improvement is an on going thing.
So long as I'm not doing a drill:
2-beat kick always used for anything slower than () a 100.
But (this is where I failed to clarify:)), if it's faster than my 200 AND slower than my 100 (currently very slow BTW:blush:) I use either the 2 or 6 beat kick depending on the situation. Examples:
6- beat negative split.
2- beat during first 150 of a 200 for fear of entering zone of spontanious autoignition of body parts.
From my distance back ground, a 4 beat works with my arms just fine.
The only way I can actually maintain a 4-beat rhythm is by kicking twice with each leg, like a double kick. Actually seems to work well perhaps I should try it more often, hmm.
I think the poll should have had an option for 6-beat all the time I am thinking about it... some other beat the rest of the time.
"Marching to the beat of a different drummer..."

Yes, that makes more sense!
I have no idea. I get confused when I try to count my kicks because my feet work independantly from my arms
This. How do people actually count especially when swimming fast? Then again, when I used to swim I was one of the fastest in any pull set but one of the slowest swimmers so clearly what I used to do is wrong.

I've tried to figure it out from video of my races even... i haven't been able to find any rhyme , reason, or pattern to my kick. It just kinda... is.
In practice i have a single beat crossover kick :)
Those who do 2 beat kick, do you whip kick bending your knees while kicking, or keep the legs straight like big scissors?
Anyone does 2 beat in backstroke?
