Finis Tempo Trainer problem

I just got a Finish Tempo trainer and was surprised to find out how loosely it fits on the clip that it comes with. I mean, it will definitely fall out of the clip with almost no effort. Did I get a defective unit or is this a "feature"?
  • Tuck it under your goggle strap (between your head and the strap) and you'll be fine.
  • Is it worth the effort? The loose fit & beeping would irritate me!
  • If I use one, I put it underneath a cap. It should fit securely and the beeping is audible. I don't keep it in the entire practice, as that would get annoying, but it is a very useful tool. We've done sets where the idea is to keep the stroke rate exactly the same, but speed up by lengthening the stroke. Then, increase the stroke rate and keep the number of strokes per lap the same, and so on. It is also helpful when you want to time yourself for a distance and even split the swim -- you've done it right if your feet hit the wall at the beep.

With or without the clip? Thanks. With the clip if you are not wearing a cap. If you wear a cap, put it under your cap without the clip.
  • With the clip if you are not wearing a cap. If you wear a cap, put it under your cap without the clip. Agreed. Sorry--should have said so!

Did I get a defective unit or is this a "feature"? The loose clip is normal to answer your question.

I find that after about a 100 or so, the beeping gets annoying. I usually have one buryed in my swim bag for months before using it again.

As well as loose I found the clip easy to break (perhaps I'm just clumsy), so wearing a cap seems the only long-term solution.
