Nekkedness...

I'm a board member for our swim club. Last nite there was mention of a complaint from a senior high school swimmer who was uncomfortable with using a locker room with the adult master swimmers. We practice at the same time a few days out of the week. This became an bigger issue last nite because we have a desire to run USA swimming at the same time as a few masters sessions in the evening and our coach voiced concern about everyone using the locker room at the same time and kids being uncomfortable. Does your club run practices at the same time? Have you run into issues like this? How did you handle/manage locker room time?

I haven't heard of any formal issues at our pool as the masters and the age group team times overlap, but I do know that my teenaged son and his teammates joke about the "naked old men" (the 40 & 50 somethings! :afraid:) in the locker room. I think it's more an amused reaction than it is anything else. It's a locker room... come on. As long as there's nothing inappropriate going on, people need to lighten up. That being said, I do deck change in the locker room and I am still in my 40s -- which I hesitate to consider old. :) Mostly because our masters group swims at noon, which is the same time as many of the preschool lessons. There is a sign up that says that children 5 and over should use the locker rooms of their gender (which isn't always followed), but I don't feel comfortable changing in front of even 3-4 year old little boys. Mostly because you never know how their mothers will react, as on occasion they have complained about less.
