Swimmers Elbow

I have been dealing with an elbow issue for the past 5 months. I regularly ice, use a compression sleeve and use ibuprofen and this seems to work tentatively but then a flair up occurs and I am right back to the same regiment. It almost feels like I have fluid buildup in my forearm. Has anyone else had this ongoing issue? If so , what is your regiment for healing?

  • I have been recovering from "golfer's elbow" (inner elbow) from swimming for 8 mos now.  Just like prior shoulder issues I've successfully rehabed, in addition to ice/rest at times, for me the main treatment is to retrain your movement not to stress the elbow.  I'm focusing on activating/strengthening/conditioning serratus anterior and external rotators out of the pool.  In the pool I focus on keeping my chest down so I'm not pushing down with my arm, and keeping my arm loose through the catch, only applying pressure with my scapular muscles and lats towards the end of the pull.  I lost some speed and endurance but still swimming a decent amount and slowly improving.  And I've had to be very patient.  Also cellphone use can aggravate the elbow.
