2017 short course nationals in Riverside, California
Former Member
Hey guys, enjoying reading the forum here today. I've recently came out of swimming retirement and started training again in the pool. More so just to get back in and stay in shape doing something I enjoy. I'd like to set a goal to qualify for riverside but I cant find the qualifying times needed. I swam for a few months (3) back in 2015 and qualified in a few swims but from what I've read the qualifying standard changes yearly.
Also, as the meet gets closer will they post more info, accommodations, etc.,
Lastly, what can I expect at a nationals meet? Is it laid back and social or super competitive? Definitely looking at the trip as a mini get away and enjoying myself with the wife.
Thanks in advance, looking to get most info I can.

More hotels have sold out on the hotel list. Don't worry, there are hotels in nearby San Bernardino 10.9 miles north of the Riverside Aquatics Complex in the Hospitality Lane area. There are lots of restaurants in walking distance that area as well!
Thanks for the list! Can you comment generally on the Corona or Moreno Valley areas? Those seem to be the other two areas with quite a few hotels.
If you're a male distance swimmer: bring on the pain. 1650 and 1000 on Thursday. 500 first thing Friday morning.
Totally. Swim early and often! :)

Kirk, I wouldn't be too concerned that the listed hotels are already booked. This just means that the discounted rooms are sold out. I booked at one of these hotels (Hyatt Place) several days ago for a very small amount over the discounted rate.

I don't know too much about the Corona or Moreno Valley areas, but I do know that they are not that far. I only know that the Hospitality Lane area is freeway close and should take about 11 to 13 minutes to drive to the swim venue. Traffic will be an issue during the week anywhere in the area but is light on the weekends. The venue for me is a 11-15 minute drive from my home.
Why are the men's medley AND freestyle relays back to back?
The order is the Men's 200 Medley Relay, then Women's 200 Medley Relay, then Men's 200 Free Relay, then Women's 200 Free Relay.
The order is the Men's 200 Medley Relay, then Women's 200 Medley Relay, then Men's 200 Free Relay, then Women's 200 Free Relay.normally there's a day between men's / women's relays though I realize sometimes there's a mixed relay right after a men's or women's relay. Just doesn't seem like much rest to me.

Could be worse. My 4 best events (1650, 1000, 500, 200 back) are the within the first 5 events offered. Fortunately, I have the 100 *** for some quality rest before my 200 back :) See you there!
