But you live in Georgia? I lived in Florida for five years -- and in college I spent two other summers lifeguarding in Tampa -- and I didn't find the summers any worse than most other places on the east coast, it just starts earlier and lasts longer. The most miserable summer (weather- and traffic-wise) I ever spent was in DC, not Florida.
I like Sarasota, and there are a heck of a lot worse places to be in June. Some of my first and still-favorite masters meets were outdoors in nearby St Pete; in fact, I met my wife at one of those meets. I don't know if I can spend a whole week next year on Pan Ams after doing so this summer for Words, but the weather is certainly not going to keep me away.
Hey, it beats San Antonio; the first place we moved to when my husband retired! We were there for 41/2 years and the 8 months of relentless heat got to me- and, where I realized my body had heat intolerance problems. It got serious; my body was a mess.
The summers are shorter in Georgia- and, rather than being housebound during the hot months, I have a beautiful recreation center to go to in our adult community, one mile away. The best part is the indoor 25 yard pool, where I do most of my training. That's the key; training indoors in an airconditioned environment. I even got them to reduce the temp. during the summer, so it has hovered around 81; better than the 86 it used to be!:bliss:
So, during the hot months, I have to spend very little time outdoors. I'm afraid the heat and humidity will get to me at the meet. At Mesa, it was a dry heat, but I still got so messed up from it I had to scratch my 200 breaststroke race on Sunday. I didn't even warm up, it was that bad... (You KNOW it's bad if I don't even want to get in the pool; I usually hate getting out!)
