  • Has anyone tried to find accommodations for Worlds? I am finding that almost every hotel listed with the Discover West travel agency is already sold out. I would love to know if anyone else plans on attending Worlds and, if so, how's their luck in finding a place to stay!! Thanks! Brigid Bunch
  • Hi! After several days of trying to get in touch with Discover West and finding all their listings as sold out, I googled Perth Hotels. I ended up getting a ***Comfort Inn right on the beach for $153 a night. That includes a suite with a queen and two doubles. Is anyone looking for a suitemate? :applaud:

Hey Brigid, I found the same thing. I know there have got to be more hotel rooms than that. I find it hard to believe they are completely sold out nearly 11 months before the event. We may just give a few of the hotels in Perth a direct call to see if they are really sold out or not. If you find anything out, let us know. Thanks Keith
  • Of course there will be many of us hiring cars and trying to drive on the wrong side of the road. Watching me try to make a right turn is an exciting experience especially if you are sitting next to me in the car. michael That in itself may keep me from attending. (insert car crash smilie and/or pedestrian road kill smilie)
  • That in itself may keep me from attending. (insert car crash smilie and/or pedestrian road kill smilie) OK scarring off Jim Clemmons from the 400 and 800 Free. Another 109 in my age group and I might score a medal - well as long as I meet the q time. michael
  • I heard from Ivan Wingate of the 2008 FINA Masters Organizing Committee about this issue. If you are a Masters swimmer wishing to book a room you should go to discoverwest.com.au/.../ It is there that they have the rooms that have been blocked for the 2008 FINA World Masters Championships. I was also told that there are plenty of rooms that are booked for championships and they are still available. If you book at a facility through the organizing committee, then you will have free transportation to Challenge Stadium. If you make your own reservations outside the block, you will be responsible for finding your own transportation to the venue. Of course there will be many of us hiring cars and trying to drive on the wrong side of the road. Watching me try to make a right turn is an exciting experience especially if you are sitting next to me in the car. If you have problems booking through the discoverwest.com.au/.../ website let me know and I will relay it to the organizing committee. It really helps the organizing committee if your book the hotels through their website, that way they will get credit for the hotel room, you should be getting a better price and you will be able to get free transportation to the venue. Ivan said "What is disappointing for Brigid is that she has now booked a 3 star facility, about 10 miles from the Challenge Stadium and 21 miles from the airport - and she'll have to find her own transport. (As you probably*know, Discover West provide transport from the airport and a shuttle service to and from the pool for all those who book through them)." I have spoken with members of the organzing committee and they are working very hard to make the hotel registration as easy as possible and to provide value for the swimmers. If you can book through the FINA Masters web site, it will be greatly appreicated. michael
  • Are there any travel agencies organizing packages to the World Championships in Perth?
  • Of course there will be many of us hiring cars and trying to drive on the wrong side of the road. Watching me try to make a right turn is an exciting experience especially if you are sitting next to me in the car. Michael, just remember the golden rule: you, the driver, should always be toward the center of the road.
  • Michael -- thanks for looking into this for me. I was getting pretty frustrated trying to book through Discover West. After hearing there were rooms left, I tried to book my original choice (Sorrento Beach) and still couldn't get through. I have tried their e-mail response method several times over the last few weeks and have not received any word back. I have called to no avail also. Is there anyone that can help me get out of $153 apartment for three people - it will only be me. Any help would be appreciated. A couple of Arizona swimmers have run into the same problem. It may be the difference for some people to enter. Thanks!
