West Side Swim Club (Sudbury, MA) will be hosting a one of a kind event on August 28th and 29th, 2010.
Called the Nare Diem, we will be hosting a 24 hour swim that will include 6 4-person relays, 6 2-person relays and 4 solo swims. For each 4 and 2 person team, each member will switch off every hour.
There will be significant cash prizes for the team relay events and prizes for the soloists that are still to be determined by the Nare Diem committee.

Registration for 24-hour Swim Event Opens April 1

SUDBURY, MA—Registration for a first-of-its-kind 24-hour pool swim event, Nare Diem, hosted by the West Side Swim Club at the Atkinson Pool in Sudbury, Massachusetts opens on Thursday, April 1, 2010 to all USMS, USA Swimming, and FINA registered swimmers. Participants can elect to compete in the event as members of a 4-person or 2-person relay team or as a solo competitor. The event will benefit the Summer Program of the Massachusetts Special Olympics and the West Side Swim Club.
Beginning at noon on Saturday August 28th and concluding at noon on Sunday August 29th, swimmers will compete against each other to see who can log the most yardage as a team or solo competitor in a 24-hour period. Prizes will be awarded for top finishers in each category.
All swimmers interested in participating are encouraged to visit the event web site at www.narediem.com as soon as possible for more information and to register for the event.
Participation in the event will be decided on a first come, first serve basis. Each registrant will be required to complete the application in full. Applicants will need to complete a medical clearance form signed by a practicing physician indicating the swimmer has had a physical since 1/1/09 or is fit enough to participate; a swimming resume and bio; evidence of a qualifying swim; a character reference form a coach, fellow swimmer, or fellow athlete who can attest to the swimmer’s swimming ability; a signed liability waiver; and proof of USMS, USA Swimming, or FINA membership.
Swimmers seeking to compete as part of a 4-person relay team will need to have completed a 2-hour or 10K swim in a pool. Swimmers seeking to compete as part of a 2-person relay team must show documentation of a 6-hour or 10-mile swim in a pool or open water. Swimmers interested in participating as a soloist must show documentation of a 10-hour or 20-mile swim in either a pool or open water. Any of the above will need to be ratified by an independent individual who can attest to completion of the swim.
The number of participants who may compete in the event is strictly limited due to space constraints at the event venue. The Nare Diem Race Committee will be selecting six 2-person teams, six 4-person teams, and four solo swimmers. Swimmers will be considered in the order that they register with completed packets. Applications are available for download here: narediem.com/.../ and will be accepted beginning at 12pm on Thursday, April 1st. Register early for the best chance of being selected to participate in this unique event.
