Steve hasn't had enough racing during the pandemic to keep his ego in shape;)
Years ago when I could swim I sometimes did a related set.
Nx200 scy fr
Start on 3:00 interval. Decrease interval by 5s each 200. See how far you can get before you miss the interval. As I recall my best efforts I would come in right on 2:25 on #8 and making the interval on #9 was hopeless.
I am unsure if I can still swim today. If I can, even the 3:00 interval would likely be impossible.
I mean, is all of this "FAST"? I only ask cause personally, I could float through until the 2:25 and then just put the pedal to the metal. I would take this set and probably have to set "targets" for each distance/set of reps. Otherwise I am liable to dial it in until the end lol! I do the following set every couple of weeks for fitness, sort of "test-like:" 4x100 @ 1:05/1:15, 1:05/1:15 rest, 3x100 @ 1:05/1:15, 1:05/1:15 rest, 2x100 @ 1:05/1:15, 1:05/1:15 rest, 100 @ 1:05/1:15 rest. Those are my SCY/LCM intervals. A similar one I got from Patrick W. Brundage's blog from years ago that he did with a couple other masters guys was: 100 @ 1:05, 100 @ 1:20, 2x100 @ 1:05, 100 @ 1:30, 3x100 @ 1:05, 100 @ 1:40, 4x100 @ 1:05, 100 @ 1:50, 5x100 @ 1:05, 100 @ 2:00, 6x100 @ 1:05. Best I got was 2 into the "5x100" when doing it as written. Although I picked a bad day to do the set. I did manage it on 1:10 interval though a couple times.
