Workouts for really out of shape former competative swimmer
Former Member
Where do I begin? I stopped swimming about 9 years ago due to the famed burnout - swimming two teams in HS. Didnt swim in college. But the pool is calling to me again...
I am very overweight now and need some workouts to help rebuild. Can you help?
The blogs are loaded with workouts, as is the Workout section of the forums.
Mostly, get in the water and go. It often helps to swim with a workout group. Ande's thread, How to Swim Faster Faster, has many excellent tips (especially time everything, so you can measure your progress). Include some interval work, and some kick sets.
For weight issues, I would be selective in refueling after a tiring swim.
Gosh, that's pretty general. :)
Here are some tips from Ande's thread, "What do YOU need to do to have a major breakthrough?" (immediately below this thread, currently; see also Ande's "Ask Ande" thread in general Swimming-Related forum):
"It also helps to ask,
'What do I need to do to get better?'
write down each aspect
create a plan to address it
then get to work.
hope this helps you swim faster faster and break on through to the other side.
