So for the past few weeks I have been training on getting back in shape and trying to do better at my Master swim meets. However, I keep running into the same problem. For example, I will do a broken 200 free into 4X50 on 55 trying to keep a under 35 second pace; doing this 4 times around. However, I can barely keep the pace I want. So the next time I swim I will do the same workout except I try to keep a under 40 second pace and I do fine. Should I change the pace to 35 to 40 and do more 50's than a broken 200 free? As a side not, you guys do not have to design a workout for me. I just want some feed back on what to do next.

I don't do any broken stuff until I'm in taper time....that's just me. I more of a "ground and pound" kind of swimmer. That is, put in the yardage, tough intervals (not every practice, but often), hypoxic training (I believe in it), etc, etc.
My point is, don't focus on just broken stuff and what you do in a meet. If you have a solid training base then good things will happen. I'm a KISS type of swimmer.....Keep It Simple Stupid.
