Hello Everyone I am a Newbie to U.S. Masters. I swam my first year in High School and a little bit after that, do to knee trouble I had to give it up for a bit however I have continued to workout on a semi regular basis and really missed the pool (the smell of the pool always brightens my mood). I am going to school to be a personal trainer, working, and playing with my doggies and husband. I am currently a little over weight but I am working on that, I work out at least five time a week for at least 60 minutes a day.
My biggest question is where to start with my training? I see some workout posts but I am not sure if I am there yet. An old coach of mine told me to start off with 2-3 times a week ands work on kicking to help build up my shoulder strength. Is there any dry land activities that might also help me out? I am not affliated with a team yet I am still a loner and once I get in more physical shape I might look into joining a group in my area but I really wanted to start off as a loner first and go from there. Please help me, and thank you!
Hi, Rachel- Good for you to pursue swimming again. I've been swimming off and on for 20 plus years and just recently started to do regular workouts in January. At first, I swam 3 x a week, about 1000-1500 yards. After 6 weeks, I'm now swimming 4 x week. I average around 2000-2500 during the week and do a longer swim, 3500, on Sunday.
There are a lot of good workouts listed on the forum. As long as you mix it up and swim as often as you can, you'll notice improvement pretty quickly.
