Hi all- Well I was competitive for 12 yrs. Last time I competed was in 98. I am now 30 yrs old, have three kid (the youngest 7 months old). I am looking into getting back into the water and into shap. Can anyone suggest a good workout for me?? Thanks- April
  • Just start with what you think you can handle. It'll take a while after a 12 year break but it will come back relatively quickly and you'll be able to do more than you thought. Make sure you get a good warm up and then just focus on sets of 50s and 100s at whatever interval you can handle. As your endurance builds, start adding a set of 200s. Then its just train to whatever level you want and adjust sets accordingly. I started back in masters after a 10 year break so you can do it.

Hi April, I got back in the pool this past October after a 15+ year break from competitive swimming. My youngest is a year old now so I know the struggles. I am getting ready to swim my 2nd meet since getting back into the water. My suggestion is slow and steady and set reachable goals so that you don't get discouraged. Also you don't want to increase yardage too fast because it can lead to injury....strained my shoulder a bit because I was preparing for a meet after a month in the water. Good Luck!! Diana
