Why Weight? by Leslie wins this race. Sorry Jim. Weight and strength training have been a core of training it seems "forever" and this type of training is especially helpful for Masters swimmers and for the benefits that Leslie notes and more. As in all training scenarios the type of training needs to be appropriate and it is the same with weight training. Leslie notes performing "complex functional lifts" where in contrast, lifting for definition and pure muscle mass would not be the best objective for swimming training.
