hey everyone!
My name is Nicole and i swam in hs about 7 yrs ago; i started swimming again these past few days with intentions of beating my personal best times (eventually :))
i sucked in hs (slacked off and was overwieght ) and my best 50 free (yards) was a 00:29 :drown:
i've started doing the workout: ruthkazez.com/.../ZeroTo1mile.html
and are one workout away from finishing week one.
i have a back injury which concerns me (slipped discs between L4-L5 and L5-S1-occured last november) but so far no pain and i have the all clear from my doctor.
there are no master swim groups or teams close enough to me (yes i checked the website-no luck)
they have an adult mini camp coming up at the pool i swim at which im looking in to (might not be able to afford it)
in the meantime i need advice on a few things (please bear with me i know i wrote alot )
1.) my flipturns suck. i always misjudge the wall and come in too close (my coach used to tell me i sit on the wall) or i'm too far away and miss it completely. any suggestions?
2.) i want to get the max. out of my workouts and without a set schedule i get lazy and bored. i would LOVE to follow a swim team's workouts from start to finish of the season. (just swimming the mile workout is boring..i want to do arm drills and kicking drills-stuff to help me get back in shape and get faster)
3.) never did dryland. would like to start. what to do? scared of trying just anything because of my back. can't afford a personal trainer.
4.) i eat like crap. i struggle with an eating disorder (ENDOS-although i am "normal" wieght for my hieght) saw a nutrionist months ago but insurance won't cover anymore visits. i hardly eat any meat (would like to eat more like a vegetarian) but there aren't many websites or books i've come across that are geared towards vegetarian swimmers or athletes. the old eating plan my nutrionist gave me doesn't have enough calories to sustain my body during working out so instead of eating healthy and following the plan i get too hungry and go for fast food.
any plans out there to eat like a vegetarain but gives me enough protein and calories so i burn fat and gain lean muscle?
thank you everyone for taking time out to read this and thank you everyone in advance to those who respond and help me out. I appreciate it!
~nicole
thank you for the advice
i eat almost entirely organic (except when i indulge in taco bell or mcdonalds) and i drink only soy milk and eat soy milk yogurt (not a fan of milk-don't like the taste)
that's pretty much my only problem- the fast food and i eat alot of carbs and not enough veggies (i have alot of oatmeal and raw food nut bars daily) i just need to balance it out more to make sure i'm getting enough nutrients so i stop binging on junk.
i think the major problem is i work midnight shift and im so tired during the day i sleep and when i wake up i have to go straight into work with no time to cook so i go for fast food. of course there aren't healthy options available at midnight at those places.:badday:
