Hi all. I just agreed to take the swimming leg of the LA Triathlon with two friends. It's the spring course, with just an 800m swim.
I was a strong swimmer in HS, and swam and played polo for about 8 years back in the day. But, that was 17 years ago. I'm 35 now and haven't done more than paddle around for years.
I've got about 5 weeks to get from nada to something that won't embarrass me too terribly. Any ideas for a workout plan? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm far, far from an expert, but logic suggests you want to be able to complete the swim:
1. Do long, continuous swims, preferably in an open water venue.
And you would like to be fast rather than slow:
2. Do some sprint work with decent rest intervals, slowly clawing down the times.
5 weeks is not a lot of time.
Maybe look at JMiller's basic set in the "Fun, and Fast" thread, or repost this question on the "Aske Ande" thread.
Good luck!
